For as long as I can remember, I have been happiest outdoors. From observing a caterpillar to climbing a peak to searching for tracks to listening to a bird song, I openly embrace my natural surroundings. I have always had a deep respect and admiration for our natural world, especially the forests, rivers and mountains. As my understanding and appreciation grew, it became increasingly more important to me to share my love of the outdoors with others, especially those who may not otherwise experience it. Over the years as an outdoor educator, youth leader and an amateur photographer, I have had numerous opportunities to share this passion. Now, life has given me a new and very exciting way to reignite my passion on a more personal level. For me, living naturally is so much more than a personal choice, but more a responsibility to create a more sustainable and meaningful existence, support a healthier ecosystem, and help guide others along their own paths to sustainability. I feel this simpler way of life we have chosen will only lend itself to deeper joy and balance, and am excited to see where else it takes us. I am thrilled to share this journey with the love of my life, who not only shares these passions and ambitions, but who inspires me every day.
Jamie loves to climb mountains, plain and simple. After studying outdoor leadership and honing a variety of climbing and trip leading experience, backcountry skills and certifications, he began leading trips with guiding companies on Mt Shasta and in the White Mountains. For years, the idea of starting up his own mountain guiding company had been very much on his mind, so with no business experience or detailed business plan he took the leap and opened North Ridge Mountain Guides in 2011. The guide service now offers outdoor climbing and mountaineering rental gear, international trips to high peaks in Ecuador and multi-day expeditions in the Pacific Northwest. Jamie shares his passion for the mountains with every client who takes the plunge into rock or ice climbing for the first time, or attempts a treacherous winter ascent of Mt Washington. By helping people prepare themselves mentally and giving them the tools they may use should they so choose, often they end up pushing the limits they have on themselves and sometimes even he is surprised with how well they do. I was lucky enough to be one of those people once, when he led me up Mt Washington one memorable February day. I largely have him to thank for igniting my desire to more deeply connect with the Whites. Some of Jamie's other loves and passions include spending time with our rescue cats, watching movies, organic gardening, natural building and off-grid systems, fermenting, natural soap-making, and learning Spanish.
Together we look forward to embracing a simpler existence in our serene home and beautiful gardens, growing our own food, connecting with our natural surroundings and our community, climbing mountains, and living in harmony with our planet.
